Mushrooms for Health and Medicine Class

Mushrooms are fascinating!

Don’t you think so?

They have been used for food and medicine for centuries, and science has been discovering many positive effects on human health well documented in studies.

The mushrooms in the photo above are the honey mushroom, Armillaria mellea, considered choice edibles (YUM!). Also called the humongous Fungus, they can grow quite large. An Armillaria mycelium in the midwest has been measured to be about 91 acres in large. The fungus lives on trees,  infecting them, and frequently killing them over the course of several years and even decades.

Interested in learning more? Dr. Lorinda will be leading a talk at Battle Ground Healing Arts on  Saturday, July 23rd. We’ll talk about their nutritional value, medicinal actions, and use, plus ethnomycology and traditional Asian use. Included will be information on Shitake, Maitake, Turkey Tail, Lions Mane, Reishi, Cordyceps, Chaga, and more.

And hopefully, try some samples!
